Daniel's Home Coming

Thank You Bunko Babes!

Dio Your The Best!

Thank You To Shelly And Yuko!

Thursday...Home

We are here and it feels great! Daniel will continue his recovery on Maui, in fact it has already begun as we keep him on a schedule that reflects his rehab in Oahu with physical training 3xs a day, and using materials to keep his mind challenged until we get him in a routine over here. One thing we bought him is a DS (like game boy) it has a game called "Brain Age" try it - it will totally discourage you! Speech and Language Therapy is the main one that was recommended to pursue but he is still working on balance and range of motion issues so that will also be addressed.

When we got off the plane Tuesday our limo driver Kalani and Caitlin were waiting for us. First we stopped by Hope Chapel to see a few friends and then we went home to be greeted by a "Welcome Home Daniel" sign in the driveway and our mutt Maggie at the door. Inside Chris's Bunko Babes had a basket of gifts waiting for us, Dio had made some food with soup on the stove and the table already set and Cait, Yuko and Shelly had the place looking pretty clean! Jackie and Jori pitching in as well. That first night here Daniel was up to going to a small bible study with some friends and last night while I was at worship practice he and Caitlin (after he took a 3 hour power nap) went to Calvary Chapel for their Wednesday night service. Everyone has been very encouraging to him and he is so excited to be back.

For the sake of keeping family and some friends updated we will continue this blog for perhaps a couple more weeks, but we want to express again how faithful our Lord Jesus is, our dependency on him for whatever life throws at us and the gratitude of all of you who believe in prayer to come alongside. Answered prayer does truly glorify God and demonstrates his love, concern and presence in our lives!

Thank You to the "comment crowd", I have read many of those to Daniel and Chris and they are a boost. LuLu, Liza, Cari. Dio, Makena, Joyce and Jesse etc. you know who you are! Thank You.

Also Chris wants me to say a big "blanket" mahalo to all who have been there in practical ways doing errands, bringing food, financially assisting us, calling to see how's it going, sending cards, etc, etc, until we can properly thank you! Our God is Awesome..The Maucks

The good life, dinner out at Islands

Monday Afternoon-Last Day!

We are wrapping things up today, seeing therapist for the last time, what a great bunch to work with! Daniel thinks he is coming home smarter since they are asking things of him that he has not even worked with at school. As I was sitting in his wheel chair yesterday (Daniel was in the comfy chair) a new nurse asked me if I was able to swallow pills yet? I told her I was doing much better - who's the patient here?

Saturday in the Rehab

The work started at 7am this morning with a little light exercise, then we moved on to the speech therapist, which actually has more to do with logic, reasoning, problem solving task then anything else. He is at his last session now with Chris and will be done by 3. Last night we got a pass and took Daniel outside of a hospital for the first time since August 15th! We went cruising through Waikiki and then over to an ice cream place called "Bubbies" next to UH where Chris and I used to go "back in '87", we were a little surprised to find it still in business. We brought back a couple of boxes of mochi ice cream for the nurses, it was a hit. Tonight we cancelled the hospital chow and will once again venture out to find dinner, I told Daniel whatever we get we still have to "cube" it, hospital style, I think he believed me. Thanks to uncle Marks inspiration we bought a Sudoku book and was very happy to see Daniel figuring it out. We also got a word find book, so the fun never stops for the buddy. We miss Cait and are looking forward to seeing her next week. God Bless...The Maucks

Friday Afternoon Update

Daniel is improving every day and makes a good effort, doing all that is given him by his therapists. While we feel he is making great progress he would like things to happen faster. Being here is helping him to realize the seriousness of his accident, so that is positive. Some things have come easy for him while others may take some time. We are really looking forward to getting back home although everyone has been very kind to us here. I think Daniel too is looking forward to school, church, bible study, hanging out, etc. but all of those things will have to be eased into. Thank You all for being there...The Maucks "For the Lord is good His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation".

Wednesday Evening from Rehab

Today was a full day of rehab and Daniel really sees the benefits of being over here. Although we were ready for at least a 2 week stay, the Doctor said today that we could be leaving by next Tuesday! That was great news for buddy. Chris and I are both excited and a little nervous but this has been about Gods timing from the start, no reason to question now - we'll be ready. Daniel says thank you again for all the prayer and was glad I was here to do "shower training" with him instead of the cute nurse. Another great thing is that just like 16 years ago the Mau family has come through for us with a condo I can stay at for the rest of the time we are here , and it is only 3 minutes away from the hospital. God's grace is sufficient, God bless you! The Maucks
