Sunday Morning

While Mark and Jori (they seem omnipresent) stay with Daniel, Chris, Caitlin and I are off to "the well"- our church- for the first time since the accident, it may be a few weeks, especially for Chris, before she gets the next opportunity. I see God showing Daniel what we have all learned these past two weeks, to celebrate what the Lord gives us today and then trust Him for what tomorrow may bring. He is very anxious to see improvement and at times wishes it could happen faster, pretty normal I'd say. For me, I am more than satisfied that he can give me a hug, but he does have some challenges ahead that God intends to use to increase his character, weather things improve quickly (which we think they are considering he was out for more than a week) or if they take longer. The P.T. had him going down the hall yesterday with no walker only holding onto one hand for balance, and that took place right after we had him in a chair for two hours visiting other parts of the hospital. He loves to talk at, with?-either one- people and Lord help us that has improved to to about 60% where he was! May God bless each one of you for caring enough to lift up our son in prayer, you all have experienced why God is worthy of all the glory and you have sustained us through the most difficult time in our life. Love you guys-The Maucks

Friday evening... after visiting hours

As Daniel continues to gain in strength, we look forward to starting rehab on Oahu. Our flight is booked for Tuesday morning and Annie Liuzzi has graciously consented to accompany us on the flight over. Chris was in tears as she recounted to me how gentle Annie was with our son during some testing as he gets disappointed with himself at not doing some of the tasks well. She felt "The Rocky" and Mrs. Rocky should be so proud of their daughter!
Worthy of praise is that Daniels right leg has not buckled even a little in at least 2 days and as the big guy was walking back to his room nurse Ellen, who hadn't seen him for 4 or 5 days, was so excited when she realized who he was. It's good to see how he can be encouraging to others and I am sure there is a need for it.
When I asked Daniel what he wanted prayer for he said for the double vision he is experiencing. He also said to thank everyone for "saving his life" because he knows how many prayers were being said on his behalf. Chris is falling asleep in his wheelchair and since there will be no IV's tonight, perhaps they can sleep through most of the night!
Peter said, "We must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to Him, both now and forever! Amen."...Amen... God bless you all! Your love and support is not taken for granted, Craig and Chris

Thursday Morning

I would like to take advantage now of all who have witnessed with us Gods hand working in Daniels life, those who have been encouraged in their faith and pray now for Emily Spencer, she was hit by a car last night and suffered injuries to her body and to her head. The family is now in the "waiting" stage while she is in ICU, but again while we wait on God we can be expecting Him to move, we can all ask for His healing power to move over her and come together as the body of Christ to stand united in prayer for this young women. Matt 11:22...have faith in God

Wednesday Morning

Daniel continues to improve, yesterday he stayed awake for the longest stretch yet as he now begins to orient himself to a more normal internal clock than the one he was on...Chris has been looking forward to this! They had a pretty good night following enough visitors throughout the day to make him a little tired and with his inhibitions down somewhat he will tell you so while you are standing there. I have to say the highlight for him was when his "old" friend Levi came by with Arron and his Serena (sp?), Levi told him it was supposed to be his turn for the teaching next and Daniel rolled his eyes and said "sure" meaning -not- later he commented he was excited to have seen them. We ended the evening with crossfit legends Jeri and Cliff who are daniels inspiration for competition, thank God he was in that to help him through this time. Our goal is to get the big guy ready by Friday to go to Oahu to start his rehab, will give more details on this in time. Chris and I continue to be humbled by the huge outpouring of support and prayer which we will unashamedly receive! Being on the receiving end, I have learned once and for all that no matter how distant I have felt from a person or situation I am praying for, the connection that God gives us makes it like you're right by their side, so to those in Alaska, California, Arizona, Scottland and South Africa, (oh yeah, and on Maui)....God Bless! We know you're there, we see the results right before our eyes!

Tuesday Morning August 26

We have said goodbye to the wonderful nurses and staff in ICU and moved to the 5th floor, Haleakala East, room 21. The head nurse has allowed Chris to spend the nights so we are thankful for that but now with less help and Daniel being more active (praise God) her work is cut out for her especially when he wants to try to get out of bed or even hang his feet over the sides. I would say our prayer is still for God to bring Daniel to recovery in His time, that he would not grow too frustrated with that process and for us to formulate with the Doctors a plan and a pace that is appropriate for the big guy. Though Daniel is back from his long "sleep" he is still understandably groggy so we remain grateful for every prayer that lifts him up!

Monday noon update

Daniel is now being moved to Room 21 in Haleakala East on the 5th Floor. Praying and visiting will be located at the old lobby sitting area between 6:30-8pm daily. Daniel will be starting therapy and is not experiencing any pain. Praise God!

Sunday Afternoon at MMH

Thank you Caitlin for picking a couple pictures from Daniels B-Day Party. Obviously communicating through the blog is not a strength for us but because of the overwhelming love and support we have felt through prayer, calls and visits, Chris and I want to take this opportunity to thank as many of you as possible...Thank you so much...you all have carried us through this time. Matthew 7 indicates that God wants us to talk to him about our concerns alot. 'Keep on asking and you will receive, keep on seeking and you will find, keep on knocking and the door will be opened." We've really sensed some door bashing going on since last Friday afternoon! Daniel is resting easily right now but I fully expect him to take more steps forward during his next "alert phase" Hard to describe how I felt when I got here for the "day shift", walked into his room to have him open his arms half way to give me a hug, it was another great moment. A while ago they brought him his first real "meal" consisting of mashed potato's and chicken (kinda minced) plus he ate all of the jello, but passed on the broccoli, no big change there. I just asked him to give me the shaka sign-he did. That's about all for now, his care team is great, God's grace is sufficient, love you all..the maucks

Sunday Morning Update (From Mauck Family)

As of this morning Daniel is more alert at times and he has also spoken a few words. At about 11:30 he was able to drink a little milk and eat a graham cracker. Thanks for keeping him in your prays, please continue to pray for his full recovery.

Mahalo,
The Mauck Family

*As of Monday morning Chris will not be in the waiting from 6:30-8:30, but we will continue to be there in the evening.

Friday Update and Also Pray For Michelle

Daniel has opened his eyes Praise the Lord. He is not fully awake yet but this is a great sign. They will try and remove his breathing tube later today. The MRI results came back and there was slight shearing along the brain stem. They won't know what effect that will have if any for a while.

Prayer Request:

  • That Daniel will fully wake up
  • For his fever to go down

Pray for Michelle:

As many of you know one of our Family's, the Lorens, took their youngest daughter Michelle who is 15 to have major scoliosis surgery on Oahu earlier this month. Surgery seemed to go well and Michelle was recovering quickly it seemed until this morning. She started getting an excruciating pain down the lower left side of her body. The pain only seems to get worse. Nancy and John have taken Michelle back to Oahu this morning.

Prayer Request

*That the doctors will have wisdom to figure out
what is causing the pain

*That Michelle will have relief from the pain.

Friday Morning Update

After leaving the comment on the previous post I remembered I was given access here :) I know a lot are praying and watching this blog for news. Here's a good news:

Daniel opened his eyes. He's still sedated so he's opening and closing, but can hold his eyes open for about 20 seconds. He is holding Craig's hands. He is "waking up".

More news later - just want to let everyone know of this very encouraging news - Halleljuah!

Thursday evening update

Daniel's PIC line procedure went fine. He actually needs an MRI and not a CT scan. Since Daniel has braces they need to remove them first in order to get a clear picture, so the MRI was pushed back until tomorrow morning.

Prayer Requests:

  • That the MRI scan will show no signs of permanent damage to Daniel's brain
  • For his fever to go down

Thursday noon update

The doctors want to take Daniel's orthodontics off his teeth before the MRI. So they are going to postpone the MRI until tomorrow morning. Tonight, a doctor will come and remove the braces from his mouth. Then tomorrow the same MRI procedure (checking the brain stem) will be performed. So please be in prayer for this process.

Thursday morning update

Daniel will be having another CT scan this morning.  The main concern is that there will be no signs of shearing, which is essentially the sliding of brain tissue. Daniel will be having a procedure this morning where they'll be inserting a PIC line into him.

Prayer Requests:
  • That the CT scan will show no signs of shearing
  • There will be no complications during the PIC line procedure
  • For Daniel's fever to go down

Tuesday afternoon update

The doctors still have not been able to identify and locate the source of Daniel's infection. This is their primary concern at the moment. The Maucks covet your prayers at this time. Please pray that God will give the doctors wisdom to locate the infection and take care of it.

We've had a few questions about clarifying visiting hours. The family ask that if you'd like to visit them that you come between 6:30-8:30am and 6:30-8:00pm. These are the best times for the Mauck family; otherwise you're pulling them away from their time with Daniel.

If you would like to help the Mauck family by providing meals for them while they're at the hospital, please call Jori Spencer at 298-9009.

Tuesday morning update

Currently Daniel is still unconscious and has a fever. The doctors have not been able to find where the infection is to stop it. Also the doctors had to put his breathing tube back in after his blood pressure spiked at 3am. His blood pressure has since lowered.

Prayer Request:
  • That the doctors will be able to locate and fight the infection
  • That Daniel's breathing will be more efficient and stabilize
  • For Daniel to wake up soon and not have suffered any permanent brain damage
If you would like to help the Mauck family by providing meals for them while they're at the hospital please call Jori Spencer at 298-9009.

Friday update 2

The CAT scan earlier this evening showed no additional swelling or bleeding on Daniel's brain. Craig says it looked virtually the same as the earlier test. This is very good news, as the doctors said the swelling could continue to get worse for 48 hours. They are going to stop the anesthetic, and are hoping Daniel regains consciousness within 24-48 hours. Pray that the swelling will begin to go down and for 100% healing, that when he wakes up, everything will work as it did before the accident.

Friday update 1

The news is better than the Maucks were expecting. Daniel has fractured his skull and there is bruising in his brain. The doctors said that Daniel will probably be unconscious for at least another day. They will do another CAT scan in about 5 hours to check on the swelling of his brain. Pray that the swelling goes down and doesn't get worse due to the bruising. The next 24 hours are crucial. Please keep Daniel and the Mauck family in your prayers.

First Prayer Request

Our Worship Pastor's son, Daniel Mauck, 16 yrs old, was in a skateboarding accident and is unconscious. He is on his way to the hospital as I write this. Please pray for God's hand of protection and healing on him.
